Christy Lam-Julian for Pinole City Council

Christy Lam-Julian is a first-generation Vietnamese American, daughter of refugees, former corporate chef, nonprofit CEO, mother of a neurodivergent child, and community advocate. She is committed to the principle of transformative and inclusive leadership.

At eighteen, she was among the youngest shop stewards and played a key role in organizing efforts in downtown San Jose, California. By age twenty, she participated in negotiations with the Teamsters to secure across-the-board wage increases and maintain health benefits. Following the birth of her son, she served on the Kaiser Northern California Post-Partum Advisory Council, where she advocated for equitable maternal care for women of color, enhanced postpartum support, and improved communication methods between staff and families. In 2021, in response to the challenges posed by the pandemic, she organized families of color, facilitated multicultural community events, managed a community pantry, and acted as a trusted liaison for marginalized populations. In 2022, she was appointed to the Community Service Commission, becoming the first Vietnamese commissioner in Pinole. She currently serves as a Pinole Planning Commissioner, Interim Director of the Contra Costa AAPI Coalition, and member of the Contra Costa Developmental Disabilities Council, where she continues to work toward improving the quality of life for all individuals.

Christy is the first woman in Contra Costa County to receive a personal endorsement from Dolores Huerta, who stated, “Challenging times call for strong, bold, proven leadership to improve the quality of life for all. Christy Lam-Julian is that community champion.”
