PIVOT Announces Our Endorsement of Huy Tran in His Race for San Jose (CA) City Council District 4

February 5, 2020

PIVOT announces our endorsement of Huy Tran in his race for San Jose (CA) City Council District 4.

Huy’s first organizing job began at San José State University (SJSU) in 2003 mobilizing students against budget cuts being imposed by then Governor Schwarzenneger. He continued on with an AFL-CIO apprenticeship program in Biloxi, MS and worked during the Katrina crisis there. Angered by the injustices he saw, Huy became a lawyer whose work has been focused on promoting the rights of workers and immigrants.

Members of the PIVOT Candidate Support Committee reviewed Huy’s letter and spoke with him. We were impressed with his dedication to public service, policy positions, and connectedness to local communities, not just with the Vietnamese but also other communities of color. Through out our conversation, we could hear his passion and commitment to the community and passion for progressive values to affect change in his local community.

Of note, the incumbent is also Vietnamese American. PIVOT assessed that Huy's values and proposed policies are more reflective of PIVOT’s vision and mission. He has been a member of PIVOT since 2017 and an active member of the Policy Committee.

Please support Huy by volunteering for his outreach team if you are in the San Jose area, and by donating to him at this PIVOT specific link. All donations to this link as of 2/8/20 up to a total of $1100 will be matched so please double your contribution by donating soon.
