State Representative Tram Nguyen is running for Congress because she believes in a government that works for people, every day people, not just the powerful few.

Tram has lived on both sides of government. She has witnessed what happens when it fails you, but also what is possible when it delivers. At just five years old, Tram came to the United States as a refugee after her family fled Vietnam’s authoritarian regime with only $100, a few suitcases, and a dream. She is the proud product of Massachusetts public schools, and with the support of caring teachers, good government programs, and community investment, she became the first in her family to graduate from college, earning degrees from Tufts University, Northeastern School of Law, and the Harvard Kennedy School.

Tram has been working for working people her entire life. After graduating from law school, she served as an attorney at Greater Boston Legal Services, where she led the Civil Legal Assistance for Victims of Crime program. She stood up for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, veterans, immigrants, low-wage workers, and people with disabilities—people who needed not just a lawyer but a relentless advocate. In that role, Tram became a member of UAW Local 2320.

In 2018, Tram took on a deeply entrenched Republican incumbent and won by ten points, making history as the first Vietnamese American woman ever elected to public office in Massachusetts. Since then, she has served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives as a bold champion for climate action, affordable housing, workers’ rights, and economic opportunity for all.

Tram Nguyen’s journey from refugee to state leader is a testament to the power of resilience, the promise of opportunity, and the belief that when we fight for one another, we all rise together. At this critical moment, Tram knows that we don’t have to choose between making life better for working people and standing up to Trump. We can, and we must, do both. She is running to become the first woman ever elected to represent the 6th Congressional District of Massachusetts, and the first immigrant and Asian American to represent Massachusetts in Washington, D.C.
