Thien Ho for California's 6th Congressional District

District Attorney Thien Ho

District Attorney Thien Ho is a tireless advocate, passionate fighter, and dedicated public servant. Drawing on his experience as a Vietnamese refugee, he has given back to the community that raised him, serving as a prosecutor and later as the Sacramento County District Attorney. Justice and safety are core tenets of his record, and his community needs a fighter in Congress with experience seeking justice to hold this administration accountable and re-center working families.

Thien Ho is the son of Vietnamese refugees who fled communism in search of freedom, justice, and opportunity. As a child, he escaped Vietnam by fishing boat and spent six months in a Malaysian refugee camp before immigrating to the United States. Growing up with little, he learned early that the rule of law, fairness, and safety are essential to a strong society.

Driven by that belief, Ho pursued a career in public service. He became a prosecutor in 1998 and spent more than two decades at the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office, including service as Assistant Chief Deputy District Attorney. One of only ten AAPI District Attorneys in the country, he has prosecuted violent crime, led efforts against gangs and hate crimes, worked closely with immigrant and vulnerable communities, and helped secure justice in the Golden State Killer case.

Elected Sacramento County District Attorney in 2022, Ho has expanded victim services; created the county’s first Homeless Outreach and Prosecution Unit; strengthened efforts against fentanyl trafficking and violent crime; and prioritized accountability for financial crimes targeting seniors, consumers, and small businesses. As a Deputy District Attorney, he supervised the Gang and Hate Crimes Unit, prosecuting offenders—including those targeting Asian Americans—and worked to build trust between law enforcement and AAPI communities so victims feel safe coming forward.

Ho’s leadership extends beyond the courtroom. He has volunteered with and helped lead initiatives including Voices for Victims, the Victims Summit, leadership training for API prosecutors, pipeline programs for future leaders, community panels addressing hate crimes and attacks on at-risk communities, leadership development for potential AAPI elected officials and judges, and safety and educational programs serving immigrants and refugees.

Ho is running for Congress because he believes every family deserves to feel safe and respected. He will fight to protect the rule of law, expand access to health care, lower the cost of housing and groceries, support working families, and keep the American Dream within reach for the next generation. Throughout his career, he has taken on complex, high-profile criminal justice challenges, coordinated multi-agency investigations, and ensured fair outcomes for victims—demonstrating the judgment, resilience, and commitment to public service that strengthen communities.
