Celebrating PIVOT's 9th Birthday!

February 21, 2026

It’s been 9 years since PIVOT was started and the mission we started with continues to be the mission that moves us forward.

PIVOT started after Donald Trump’s first election in November 2016, progressive Vietnamese American leaders across the country recognized the need to resist his brutal policies and to counteract the mistaken impression that Vietnamese Americans were mostly conservative. After a series of convenings in Virginia and California in December 2016 and January 2017, we made the decision to create an organization to build the progressive Vietnamese American movement when Donald Trump issued the Muslim travel ban right after his inauguration.

Within 2 months, through mostly online and virtual activities, we arrived at the name and logo, came to consensus on our vision and mission statements, incorporated as a 501c4 (advocacy) non-profit organization with a board consisting of members across the country, raised funds to support our work, and launched a social media outreach campaign that was the core of the Vietnamese American resistance.

Since then, PIVOT has expanded its reach nationwide, pioneered an advertising campaign during the elections reaching millions of voters, and so much more. With your help, we will continue to champion change across this country and bring awareness to everyday issues so we can continue our mission of creating a more just America for all.
